An ambitious architectural addition—including new interior spaces and a reoriented garage—sparked a reimagining of this four-acre property nestled within an undisturbed Oak and Maple woodland. Previously fragmented and underutilized landscape areas were transformed through HMWhite’s master plan into a unified residential retreat, deeply rooted in the surrounding forest’s ecology and beauty.

A consistent material and planting language—fieldstone retaining walls, bluestone paths and terraces, flowering trees, native understory layers, and stone steppingstones—stitched together a fluid sequence of outdoor spaces. The sloping topography was sensitively carved and terraced to expand living areas and enable graceful movement throughout the site. A sculpted network of stone walls integrated key features—a fireplace chimney, custom spa, and wet bar creating an amenity-rich landscape with a strong, unified garden architectural language.

Mature tree specimens were introduced to define spatial rhythms, frame views, and soften transitions between the house and woodland edge. Antiqued fieldstone walls appear as if from a forgotten past, grounding the new design in a sense of timeless continuity. Transplanted shrubs and layers of new woodland plantings—textural groundcovers, ferns, and flowering forbs—form ecological and visual connections, blurring thresholds between residence, garden, and native forest.

Every design gesture is scaled to the surrounding woodland, where natural and built elements seamlessly converge. The result is a sculpted yet wild retreat—immersive, serene, and deeply restorative.
