Ateret Torah Campus Green

Location: Brooklyn, New York

Based on the success of Ateret’s first building and surrounding campus design, HMWhite was approached first by the school to study the feasibility of a second phase to expand, presented by the opportunity to purchase an adjoining property. Synthesizing the school’s expressed goals for its new building and site, the opportunity to introduce a central campus green was envisioned to bind the proposed and existing school buildings. The campus green caps a new basement level parking facility, servicing and linking both structures, while recognizing the value and need for vehicular access and service,

This campus commons emerges as the school’s social and exterior learning center where the K-12 student body and school community have a place to interact for the first time in the school’s history. Ancillary break-out and passive-use areas surround the central lawn which affords great flexibility in use and seamlessly merges interior spaces and complimentary school programs. With this unprecedented school expansion, a new and timeless image and identity is created for which the institution will be identified for many of its future generations.
