HENRY M. WHITE, III
Principal

Led by the conviction that the designed landscape is among the most perpetual and convincing forms of cultural expression and environmental accountability, Hank has pursued an interest in landscape since his childhood. His work examines the dichotomy of nature and culture where the responsible and sensitive cultivation of the land is integrated with the necessities of contemporary life. His designs successfully deepen one’s connection with his surroundings where one’s spiritual and cultural lives are profoundly enriched. The experiential and sensual capacities of landscape and their contributions to establishing comfortable and productive human environments define the purpose of his work and motivate him as a designer and a collaborator. These aspirations are balanced within a keen understanding of project economics where added value is balanced with best practices and visual poetry.

Hank provides the creative leadership of the firm and is involved in some capacity with each project the firm undertakes. Whether in an urban park, neighborhood square or a city sidewalk, his commitment to the vitality of public spaces and their benefit to public life is demonstrated by his appointment as President of Trees New York – a non-profit organization improving the quality and extent of New York City’s urban forest. He serves on a number of civic boards relentlessly advocating the sensible use of our land and perpetuating sustainable landscape beauty.
