Brooklyn Botanical Garden Construction
Brooklyn, New York

Fall 2011

A comprehensive landscape design created by HM White to enhance the Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s new Visitor Center and street plaza entrance designed by Weiss/Manfredi Architects is currently under construction. In establishing a relevant site design and enabling the project’s anticipated LEED® Gold accreditation, HM White has synthesized site engineering objectives with storm water collection and bioinfiltration systems, extensive soils restoration, a 9,400 square-feet green roof and select plant communities to mitigate on-site water management. The site design strategically integrates the building complex into its garden setting, providing both a horticultural exhibit and an educational tool. The bold planting design introduces nearly 100,000 new plants, showcasing large-scale collections of regionally native species and highlighting new “native cultivars” and select non-natives for year-round interest.  The project is expected to be completed and open to the public by spring 2012.
